POLITICAL SURVIVAL
California Association of REALTORS® Explanation and Legal Notice

REALTORS® may participate in Political Survival by including a voluntary donation on the same check as your dues payment. Forty-nine dollars ($49) is the suggested voluntary contribution.  However, donations are not limited to the suggested amount. No contributor will be favored or disfavored by reason of the amount of his/her contribution or his/her decision not to contribute. Failure to contribute will not affect an individual's membership status in C.A.R.

POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS (including Political Survival contributions) are not deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes.

Your Political Survival donation will be allocated among four political action committees connected with the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. These are:

CREPAC/BORPAC: Supports candidates for public office at the state and local levels.
CREPAC/Federal:  Supports candidates for the U S Senate and House of Representatives.
IMPAC: Supports local and state ballot measures and other issues that impact upon real property in California.
CREIEC:  Makes independent expenditures in support of or opposition to candidates at the state and local levels.

IMPAC consists of state and local IMPAC. State IMPAC and a portion of local IMPAC are funded by your dues dollars.

Your contribution will be allocated among C.A.R.'s political action committees according to a formula approved by the C.A.R. Board of Directors. The general allocation formula for 2000 Political Survival contributions calls for a total of 70% to CREPAC/BORPAC, 15% to CREPAC/Federal, 10% to local IMPAC and 5% to State IMPAC CREPAC/BORPAC funds will be split 60% to State CREPAC and 40% to BORPAC. The allocation formula is subject to change.

Contributors will be notified, as appropriate, of any changes in the allocation, for the purpose of complying with state and federal contribution limitations contained in the California Political Reform Act and the Federal Election Campaign Act. Contributions later determined to be in excess of the contribution limits will be reallocated to another PAC connected with the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® or refunded to the contributor. Under the Federal Election Campaign Act, an individual may contribute up to $5,000 in a calendar year to CREPAC/Federal. In state campaigns, the Political Reform Act currently imposes no limits on the amount an individual may contribute in a calendar year to CREPAC/BORPAC.

CORPORATE CONTRIBUTIONS are currently legal and acceptable under California law. Corporate contributions cannot be used in federal elections and will be deposited in CREPAC/BORPAC, IMPAC and/or CREIEC. A corporate contribution includes any contribution drawn from a corporate account.
Therefore, corporate contributions will be allocated 85% to CREPAC/BORPAC, 10% to local IMPAC and 5% to State IMPAC.

PERSONAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be used for both state and federal elections and therefore may be deposited in CREPAC/Federal in addition to all other C.A.R. political action committees. Personal contributions are expected to be allocated 70% to CREPAC/BORPAC, 15% to CREPAC/Federal, 10% to local IMPAC and 5% to State IMPAC.

Your SUBSCRIPTION TO CALIFORNIA REAL ESTATE MAGAZINE IS PAID FOR WITH YOUR DUES AT A RATE OF $6.00

Housing Affordability Fund

Return To Previous Page

The California Association of REALTORS® Housing Affordability Fund (H.A.F.) receives donations from members, non-members, and other institutions that are committed to addressing the housing problem in California. It distributes these resources through Local Associations who have submitted funding requests for local programs that address housing affordability and housing supply directly. In order to have the maximum impact, it seeks to leverage its funds with Local Associations and their housing partners.

The initial goal of the fund is to raise $20 million dollars within 5 years.
